The Trinbago Knight Riders are neither a national team nor a football club. This franchise represents Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean Premier League, a T20 cricket competition. Stake became its Official Title Partner in July 2025, a few weeks before TKR won a fifth CPL title.
The CPL, a Condensed T20 Competition
Created in 2013, the Caribbean Premier League brings together franchises based in several Caribbean territories. Each team has twenty overs of six balls in which to score more runs than its opponent. This shortened format allows a match to be completed in a few hours rather than over several days.
TKR represents Trinidad and Tobago and plays its home matches at Queen's Park Oval and the Brian Lara Cricket Academy depending on the schedule. The franchise should not be confused with the West Indies national team or with the other Knight Riders entities competing in other T20 leagues.
From Red Steel to the Knight Riders Identity
The franchise competed in the inaugural CPL in 2013 under the name Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel. The group associated with the Kolkata Knight Riders took control in 2015, the year of its first title, before it adopted the name Trinbago Knight Riders for the 2016 season.
“Trinbago” combines Trinidad and Tobago, while Knight Riders connects the team to a wider franchise universe. This change did not erase its Caribbean base: the franchise's website and operations are run by TKR Trinidad Ltd. from Port of Spain.

Five CPL Titles, Including a Perfect 2020 Season
TKR won the CPL in 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2020. The fourth title stood out for an unbeaten campaign: twelve victories in twelve matches.
In September 2025, the Knight Riders added a fifth crown by beating the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the final. This success, which came after the Stake announcement, updates the record presented when the agreement was signed, when the franchise still had only four titles.
Title Partner Status Announced on 29 July 2025
On 29 July 2025, TKR announced Stake as its Official Title Partner under a multi-year agreement. This status places the brand at the centre of the franchise's shirt and within the commercial identity associated with the season.
The announcement campaign notably brought together Andre Russell, Sunil Narine and Dwayne Bravo with figures from other Stake partnerships. One of the local media items thus shows TKR players holding an Everton shirt: this is a promotional crossover, not a confusion between the two teams.
A Presence in Cricket Confirmed in 2026
As of 25 July 2026, the relationship remains documentable with a high level of certainty. The announced agreement was multi-year, TKR's website still displays a Title Partner and the franchise's media show the Stake brand on the kit. The CPL also published TKR's overseas contingent for the 2026 edition on 23 July.
This partnership differs from Stake's football agreements in its setting: a franchise-based T20 competition, a condensed season and a Knight Riders identity shared across several markets. For another sporting presence outside Europe, the page on Enyimba and Stake presents a main-sponsorship model in Nigerian football.
