Essential terms
Account and security
- 2FA
- Two-factor authentication. A temporary code notably protects logins and operations that send funds. Secure your account.
- Passkey
- A sign-in method tied to a device and unlocked with a PIN, fingerprint or facial recognition.
- Phishing
- A fake website or message designed to steal a password, 2FA code or other sensitive information.
- Balance
- The amount available in the Stake Wallet for a currency or cryptocurrency.
- Wallet
- A wallet displays balances and enables deposits or withdrawals. A personal wallet is separate from Stake’s internal Wallet.
Deposits, withdrawals and payments
- Deposit
- Adding funds to the Stake Wallet, in cryptocurrency or sometimes local currency depending on the market. Deposit guide.
- Withdrawal
- Sending funds from Stake to a compatible receiving address. Withdrawal guide.
- Address
- The recipient identifier on a network. It must be copied exactly from the receiving wallet.
- Network
- The technical route used for a transfer. The same network must be selected when sending and receiving.
- Memo / destination tag
- Additional information required to assign certain transfers, notably with EOS or XRP.
- Confirmation
- Validation of a transaction by the network. The required number depends on the asset and receiving service.
- Exchange
- A platform used to buy, sell, deposit or withdraw cryptocurrencies.
- Fiat
- Currency issued by a state, such as the euro, Canadian dollar or Turkish lira.
Cryptocurrencies
- Crypto
- A digital asset transferable over a network, such as BTC, ETH or SOL. Cryptocurrency guide.
- Token
- An asset that uses an existing network. The same token may be available on several networks.
- Stablecoin
- A cryptocurrency designed to track a reference currency. That intended stability is not a guarantee of value.
- Volatility
- The scale of changes in an asset’s value. High volatility can rapidly change the value of a balance.
- TXID / transaction hash
- A unique identifier used to find a transfer in the network explorer.
Casino
- Bet / wager
- The amount committed to a game or bet.
- Stake Originals
- Games offered directly by Stake, such as Mines, Crash or Dragon Tower.
- RTP
- A theoretical return rate calculated over a large number of games. It does not predict the result of a session.
- House edge
- The operator’s mathematical advantage. A low edge does not prevent losses.
- Payout / multiplier
- The return or coefficient set by the rules when a winning condition is met.
- Provably fair
- A system for verifying certain results with game data. It does not remove the house edge. Understand provably fair.
Sports betting
- Odds
- The coefficient used to calculate the potential return from a winning bet.
- Single bet
- A bet containing one selection.
- Accumulator / parlay
- A bet combining several selections. They must generally all win for the accumulator to pay.
- Cash out
- An option for settling certain bets before the final result when Stake offers it.
Bonuses and VIP programme
- Bonus
- A benefit subject to the conditions displayed for the account. It is not a guaranteed win.
- Wager / wagering
- The volume of eligible bets. Wager is neither the deposit nor the loss. Understand the VIP programme.
- Rollover
- The betting volume required before a bonus or certain funds can be withdrawn under the applicable conditions.
- Rakeback
- A return calculated from bets and the theoretical house edge. It is not a fixed refund of losses.
- Cashback
- A promotional return calculated under specific rules. It must not automatically be confused with rakeback.
- VIP level
- A loyalty-programme rank generally linked to accumulated eligible wagering.
- Reload
- A periodic bonus offered to certain eligible accounts according to their level and activity.
Chat and community
- Rain
- An occasional distribution among eligible chat users. Eligibility does not guarantee receipt.
- Tip
- An internal transfer between users when the feature is available.

What does wager mean on Stake?
Wager is the total volume of eligible bets. It is neither the amount deposited nor the amount lost.
What is the difference between a wallet and an exchange?
A wallet is used to hold and transfer assets. An exchange notably lets you buy or sell them and also provides deposit addresses.
What is the difference between a cryptocurrency and a network?
The cryptocurrency is the asset sent. The network is the technical route used for the transfer.
Are rakeback and cashback the same?
Not automatically. Rakeback is calculated according to wagers and the theoretical house edge; cashback follows the rules of the offer that provides it.
What does rain mean in Stake chat?
A rain is an occasional distribution among certain eligible users. Eligibility does not guarantee that you will receive one.
